For starters, this 14-deck 130,000-ton ship has an impressive aesthetic. Celebrity Cruises’ list of collaborators (including Tom Wright, the architect behind Dubai’s head-turning Burj Al Arab hotel) reads like a who’s who in the world of design. At well below capacity there was tons of room, and there are enough spaces that even when it’s busier people can spread out and find their own spot. The day before departure all guests took another test, with results sent to your stateroom, which you can also use if proof of negative test is needed to fly home. We were cautious after not travelling for so long but it all felt very safe, more than many places at home.

When a production show isn't on offer, you'll catch solo musicians, magicians and comedians at The Theatre. You’ll find the same dining options on Celebrity Apex as you will on Celebrity Edge. These include nearly 30 different options, both complimentary and for-a-fee.

ALL CRUISE LINES (1543 SHIPS)
Due to the ongoing pandemic, the maiden voyage (initially planned for April 1, 2020) was rescheduled first for May 20th, later for June 13, September 16, October 10, November 5, December 5 and finally for January 2, 2021. Due to the global COVID crisis, in March 2020, Celebrity decided to take a "Virtual Delivery" of the vessel via video conference with the shipyard's officials. The online event was held on March 27th and attended by Dimitris Kafetzis (cruise ship's Captain), Lisa Lutoff Perlo (Celebrity Cruises' CEO) and Laurent Castaing (shipbuilder's General Manager).

Suite passengers have also the option to eat in the Main Dining Rooms (Normandie Restaurant, Tuscan Restaurant, Cosmopolitan Restaurant, Cyprus Restaurant). These 4 complimentary restaurants serve menus inspired by the itinerary/destinations visited. Each restaurant offers regional wines and themed cocktails, dishes made from locally-sourced ingredients, also a rotating menu of Signature dishes for dinner (changing every evening) and a Classic dinner menu.

The famous sail-in to Montenegro was enthralling as the ship weaved through the mountain-lined landscape, and Dubrovnik, Croatia is always a personal favorite. The ship's crew hail from all around the world and speak multiple languages. The Retreat's staff were quick to remember my name and personal preferences. Overall, everyone working on board was very friendly and diligent at tidying the ship. The cabins have designer touches with bright colors and padded mattresses topped with duvets. The bathroom was rather spacious in my cabin with a glass shower stall, C.O.
One of the Edge Series ships, she’s a radical departure from Celebrity’s previous ships. Captains (10 to 12) have plenty of video game options, with gaming systems hanging from nearly every conceivable space. They can watch TV and movies or learn about GoPros or the ship's navigation.
Children’s and Teen Programming
Exclusive to guests of The Retreat, including a private restaurant, sundeck, lounge & more. Celebrity Cruises’ latest ship is the apex predator the travel industry didn’t know it needed. Aptly named Apex, this Cadillac of cruise liners is scheduled to sail everywhere from the Bahamas to the British Isles in 2022. With cruising being put on hold for so long, everyone – both passengers and crew – is so happy to be back out there sailing again, which gives it a really special atmosphere. The crew seem genuinely happy to be back at work and meeting people from around the world again, and smaller guest numbers mean it’s easier to chat with them. Also included are the Eden Café (which does great salads), healthy dishes and juices from the Spa Café and burgers at the Mast Grill.
The Magic Carpet, a bright orange outdoor space that sort of hangs off the side of the ship, includes comfortable seating and a well-stocked bar. The Craft Social Bar is Celebrity’s newest venue, offering 40 handcrafted boutique beer selections, wine, and small bites. Celebrity Apex itineraries also include the glittering coasts of the Mediterranean and the unveiled destinations of the Norwegian Fjords, Iceland, British Isles and more. Plan a summer escape to the glamorous French Riviera, the idyllic Greek Islands, and the golden beaches of Spain. After days spent exploring Europe’s most unforgettable ports, indulge in world-class dining, impeccable service, and endless entertainment aboard Celebrity Apex. Some long-term cruisers might find some of the innovations a bit of a change, but I think Apex might help tempt some new-to-cruise travellers to give it a try.
Celebrity Apex®, the second in our Edge® Series ships, offers the widest range of staterooms in our fleet. Choose from 178 possible options of connecting staterooms that make travelling together so much easier. Combinations include two adjoining Edge Staterooms with Infinite Verandas® connected to become one, and the Iconic Suite and the Royal Suite connected to create our largest unique combination that comfortably sleeps ten. They include cozy bars with biodynamic wines, lavish lounges with live entertainment and even a restaurant with a menu personally planned by real life celebrity, chef Daniel Boulud.
Celebrity Cruises differs from other big ship cruise lines in that it tends to kick things up a notch in the style and quality departments. The price tag remains in the middle of the pack, but its new line of Edge Class ships has propelled Celebrity forward to represent a new level of cruising. Celebrity has succeeded in appealing to every segment of traveler with its inclusive and forward-thinking new ships. A multi-purpose area that brings our destinations to life, The Destination Gateway is a portal that leads to all things global through onshore exploration and onboard enrichment. When not in use as a luxury embarkation station, the space is transformed into an intimate setting for programming centered on shore excursions and more.
The lounge has an outward-facing design and combines a signature gastronomic experience (light lunch, 5-course dinner, wine tastings) with live performances, daily lectures, promo events. In the evening, the lounge transforms into "Eve at Eden", with more provocative entertainment (fusion of performance art, dining, and nightlife. The unique space has a striking lighting feature - The Chandelier, an art installation rising over Martini Bar to the ceiling 3 decks above. It is composed of 5 levels and a total of 765 blades illuminated via dynamic LED strips changing their colors from day to night, The Chandelier weighs 7 tons.
